Stress = self interest
Stress=self interest
The biological impulse of stress causes us to narrow our focus literally to ourself and where we need to get to in order to escape the “threat” to our survival. We need to get things done, get ahead, get what we want - sometimes at the cost of others and regularly at the cost of our own wellbeing, our own enjoyment of the flow of life.
Rest, especially regular deep rest like we gain in meditation, leads to a broadening of awareness where we are naturally able to take in more of our surroundings, notice those around us and how they may be feeling and have the adaptability and space to make choices which better support the whole, the Self, ourselves and all the other parts of the unified web of consciousness of which we are all expressions. The equation is simple.
How do we optimise this experience of life? We've all tried the doing, doing, doing, and while that might deliver on the external plane, we find that the experience causes stress, breakdown in the body, a lack of joy, love and fulfilment.
